Friday 6 June

Nigel Slater and Denis Lawson

Scottish actor Denis Lawson, who has appeared in such series as Bleak House, Local Hero and Holby City, was embarrassed by his mum as she cooked his childhood tatties and mince, and remembered his fashion faux pas as a teenager. Actor friend Hilton McRae caused havoc in the kitchen, while John Gordon Sinclair challenged Nigel and Denis to make a Moroccan pigeon pie.

Meera Syal

Comic actress and writer Meera Syal took Nigel on a culinary trip into her past. Friend, comedian Jo Brand, gave us an anti-cookery lesson in making bangers, mash and beans, while actor Richard E Grant challenged Meera to make a bread and butter pudding.

Thandie Newton and Nigel Slater

Hollywood actress Thandie Newton told the story of her life through food, from her parents' Cornish pasties to Zimbabwean cuisine. Thandie's best friend rustled up Oysters Rockefeller and comic actor Ben Miller challenged Thandie and Nigel to make pancakes and an all-American breakfast.

Sue Johnston

Nigel took Waking the Dead actress Sue Johnston on a nostalgic journey back to her days of hanging out at the famous Cavern club in Liverpool, eating Lemon meringue pie. Liverpool FC's Jamie Carragher challenged Nigel and Sue to make a dish, and friends Maggie Steed and Margot Leicester recreated meals from their hippy days.

Rory Bremner

Satirist Rory Bremner told Nigel about the impression that food has made on his life. Chris Tarrant got his revenge as he challenged Rory to make a Fish pie while impersonating him; Rory's co-star and friend John Fortune cooked for him in the style of Nigella; Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason rustled up a Middle Eastern dish; and Rory's wife prepared a tagine.
