Nigel Slater

Week three

Nigel Slater met models, actors and fellow foodies to learn about the dishes that have shaped their lives.

Thursday 12 June

Timothy Spall

Actor Timothy Spall tucked into chicken and chips and remembered himself as a 'fat, lazy and useless' child. His family surprised him by cooking a Christmas lunch in his honour, Hollywood actor Sam Neill baked him a salmon, and fellow actor Kenneth Cranham challenged him and Nigel to make a steak and kidney pie.

Tuesday 10 June

Neil Morrissey

Neil Morrissey talked candidly about his past and the food he associated with different periods of his life. Creator of Men Behaving Badly, Simon Nye, challenged Neil to cook an omelette while blindfolded, and friends and fellow actors Adrian Dunbar and Charlie Lawson revisited their college days by making gourmet cheese on toast.

Monday 9 June

Nigel Slater and Jo Brand

Comedian Jo Brand was challenged by comic chum Harry Hill to bake a cake, while dressed as the singer Morrissey. Jo talked about her rebellious teenage years, the perils of stand up, her attitudes to men, and how she hopes to be remembered as a 'national disgrace', rather than as a 'national treasure'.

Plus, Jo's mum cooked her favourite pie from her childhood and described how Jo would store her food in her cheeks at dinner.
