Programme eight

Gemma Atkinson

Gemma first became known to audiences as a popular character on Hollyoaks, which she played for over four years. She left the original programme to appear on its spin-off, Hollyoaks: In The City.

Gemma's most recent success was on ITV1's primetime show Soapstar Superstar. She has also recently launched a new product for confectionery giant Mars, was appointed the female face of the British Grand Prix for 2007 and is currently the face of high street lingerie company La Senza.

In the final test, Gemma served Fillet steak with asparagus sauce and mash, followed by Chocolate with strawberries and raspberries.

Robbie Earle MBE

Robbie is one of ITV's leading sports personalities. His interest in current affairs and business development naturally led Robbie to participate in BBC's 2005 Year of Africa. Most recently ITV promoted Robbie to a lead pundit in their Champions League Coverage.

Robbie launched his football career at Port Vale in 1982 and in 1991 he signed for Wimbledon FC, at the time for a club record of £775,000. During his career Robbie played in more than 600 league games and scored approximately 150 goals.

As an attacking midfielder, Robbie made history in 1998 when he scored Jamaica's first goal in the World Cup Finals against Croatia, on Jamaica's first-ever qualification for the competition. He was forced to retire from his playing career in 2000 because of a near-fatal freak injury sustained when he was kicked in the stomach during a reserve game against Watford.

Midge Ure, Gemma Atkinson and Robbie Earle

Robbie is also an ambassador for the organisation Reading Is Fundamental, which was established to encourage young boys to get reading. Since his retirement, Robbie has successfully established himself as a respected sports journalist, enjoying regular work on both radio and television, including Capital Radio and BBC Radio 5 and BBC TV, ITV, Sky and OnDigital. He also won the BBC Strictly African Dancing competition, in full Zulu costume.

In the final test, Robbie cooked Jerk chicken, followed by Exotic fruit trifle.

Midge Ure

Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, Midge worked as an apprentice engineer before playing guitar and singing with Glasgow band Salvation. Both the singer and band evolved in 1974, with Salvation becoming Slik and Ure changing his first name to Midge – a take on “Jim” reversed.

Silk enjoyed a chart-topping single with Forever and Ever in 1976, but Midge was unimpressed with the band's direction. He left to join punk outfit The Rich Kids, but the group disbanded within a year.

In the early 1980s, Midge linked up with Billy Currie to revive Currie's band Ultravox with fellow members Warren Cann and Chris Cross. With Midge on board, the electro-pop quartet achieved national recognition with the song Vienna, which reached number two in 1981.

As the group's success began to wane – they eventually disbanded in 1987 – Midge launched a solo career, earning his first top 10 solo hit in 1982 with No Regrets.

By 1985 Midge's pop career was overshadowed by Band Aid, which took the world by storm at Christmas 1984. Under his production, 36 artists – including George Michael, Bono and Duran Duran – appeared on the song Do They Know it's Christmas. Jointly composed by Midge and Bob Geldof, the track was the music industry's fundraising response to famine in Ethiopia. It would eventually sell more than three million copies worldwide and provide the impetus for the 1985 global concert Live Aid.

EMI released the CD Very best of Midge Ure & Ultravox in 2001. Midge was awarded an OBE in 2005 and continues to collaborate with musicians on a variety of projects. He recently released a single, Personal Heaven, with German musicians, X-Perience.

In the final test, Midge made Sesame chicken salad, followed by Sukiyaki, sukiyaki sauce and sushi rice.

Sherrie Hewson

Sherrie has enjoyed a long and successful career, perhaps best known for her role as Maureen on Coronation Street. A RADA trained actress, she has appeared on several television programmes, including Lovejoy, Emmerdale, Russ Abbot, Comedy Crowd and Crossroads. Her film credits include Carry On Behind and The Slipper and The Rose, and she appeared with Amanda Barrie in the original stage production of Stepping Out.
