Where did they go?Si and Dave have been on the road for more than two years. After all their global travelling and culinary adventures, it was time to go back to their roots to discover what they have on their own doorsteps. First stop was Dave's birthplace, Barrow-in-Furness, home to whippets, sawdust and Northern soul food. The Boys stopped at Green's, where warming meat and potato pies have been made for generations Bury Market is home to the renowned black pudding, the basis of the boys' Lancashire Hotpot, which they rustled up in front of a crowd of Bury shoppers. Then it was onto Waberthwaite, home for almost 200 years to Woodalls and their famous Cumberland sausages and air-dried hams. Over the Hartside Pass, they visited Carroll's potato farm, before heading onto Bamburgh Castle, followed by crab soup at the Jolly Fisherman - something Si has enjoyed ever since he was a tiny boy. Next they roared down the Tyne in Dave's powerboat, Hairy Mary, to meet the trawlermen at North Shields Fish Quay; a fish market to rival any in Brittany and a chance to rustle up the ultimate fish pie. Finally they made it home to see Stella, Si's 86-year-old mother, who still lives on the estate where he grew up. It was time to reflect on the old times, traditional miner's fare, and how Northern families catered for their men-folk. And we saw Stella's cookbook - where Si's love of food started.
