Bill Granger

bills food 2

Bill Granger cooked up more stylish recipes in the second series of bills food on BBC Two.

School days: episode 1

Bill Granger's Raspberry, pistachio and rosewater semifreddo

Bill puts together healthy lunchboxes for the family, before heading out to a suburban technical college in south-west Sydney to teach and inspire a group of students. Flipping pancakes and trading jokes are the order of the day. Then it's on to teach a group of men who are unfamiliar with the kitchen - it's a challenge, but robust humour sees the accomplishment of a roast with style.

Rainy days: episode 2

Bill Granger's Watercress, apple and chicory salad

Everything slows down on a rainy day. It's the perfect opportunity to shut the doors, stay inside and cook those recipes that take a little longer - food that is warming and comforting. Putting something away for a rainy day implies frugality, and for Bill having food in the freezer is like money in the bank. Bill cooks from the pantry and for the freezer, using staples that most of us will have on hand.

Selection of recipes

Good old days: episode 3

Bill recounts some of his family history, which includes generations of butchers and bakers, and introduces us to his home town of Melbourne. His love of other cultures and delight in his own Australian heritage all come together to influence and inspire in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Far-flung days: episode 4

Bill Granger's Portuguese custard tarts

When Bill was 19 he went on his first international food adventure; it started in New York and ended in Spain. Bill's travels nowadays are more likely to be a whistle-stop tour for a book signing or launch, but all travel inspires Bill.

Daylight: episode 5

Life and food are all about balance. Sometimes it's tricky, but Bill gives helpful hints on how to make that balance work, by showing us ways to make food that's healthy, delicious, simple and fast. Seafood is great place to start and Bill cooks up some sublime seafood dishes that take mere minutes.

Days together: episode 6

Puy lentils

Bill has been auctioned off to create a first anniversary dinner, and he shows us how special an intimate dinner for two can be, once you throw in a spectacular natural setting and deliciously romantic food. Bill also plans a wonderful wedding menu for one of his dearest friends and her husband-to-be.

Holly days: episode 7

Pumpkin

It’s Christmas time in Sydney! It's hot and seafood is on the barbecue. This is Bill's family Christmas, Australian-style, with a little nod to tradition. Boxing Day is for relaxing after the excitement of Christmas and Bill puts together a suitably laid-back picnic for friends by the harbour.
