Spiced apple and raisin crumble

Preparation method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

  2. For the crumble topping, place the butter, flour and sugar into a bowl and rub with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. If the mixture is too sticky add a little more plain flour.

  3. For the filling, melt the butter in a frying pan, add the apple and cook gently for 3-4 minutes. Add the sugar, white wine, raisins and spices and cook for a further 3-4 minutes.

  4. Grease a gratin dish, pour the filling mixture into the dish and top with the crumble topping.

  5. Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until bubbling and golden-brown on top.

  6. To serve, transfer the crumble to a bowl and pour over some double cream.
