450g/1lb wholemeal flour
225g/8oz self-raising flour
1½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
1½ tsp cream of tartar
pinch salt
2 tsp sugar
570ml/1 pint milk
250g/9fl oz natural yoghurt (mix these two ingredients together)
1. Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5.
2. Mix all dry ingredients together and slowly add the milk and yoghurt mix until it forms a soft dough. You might not need all the liquid.
3. Knead for 5 minutes and make into a round loaf shape. Cross the top with a knife.
4. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until golden, crusty and hollow-sounding when tapped.
