Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients

200g/7oz spaghetti
1 tbsp olive oil
255g/9oz beef steak, diced
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
½ red onion, peeled and sliced
400g/14oz tinned tomatoes
85ml/3fl oz red wine
dash Worcestershire sauce
dash Tabasco
½ beef stock cube, crumbled
2 tbsp fresh basil or flatleaf parsley, chopped

Method

1. Bring a large pan of water to the boil.
2. Drop the spaghetti into the water and boil for 10-12 minutes.
3. Heat the oil in a medium pan.
4. Add the steak and brown for 5-6 minutes.
5. Tip in the tomatoes and red wine and add the Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco.
6. Crumble in the stock cube and stir well.
7. Leave the bolognese to simmer for 10-12 minutes.
8. Drain the spaghetti and divide between two plates.
9. Spoon the bolognese onto the plates of spaghetti.
10. Garnish with the fresh herbs and serve.
