
Small cubes of bread that have been fried, then drained and cooled: as they cool, they develop a crisp texture. Croûtons are used as a garnish for soups and salads such as Caesar salad. They can also be used in stuffing in place of breadcrumbs.

Add croûtons to dishes just before serving to prevent them from going soggy.
