There' s lots to think about to ensure a stress-free party. Here are a few things to bear in mind: - Invites - keep it simple. Put yourself in their shoes and think about what you like to know before you go to a party.
- Setting the scene - don't forget to organise the music, lighting, clear away any excess clutter (even if it means hiding it under your bed or in the boot of your car!), rearranging furniture to maximise your space.
- Create some space to put people's coats.
- Make a note of your local taxis, and put the numbers near the phone, to make things easier when people are leaving. It's also a huge help to have your phone number and address next to the phone for people who are calling a taxi.
- Warn the neighbours!
- The professionals - no matter how capable, multi-skilled or wonderfully talented you are, why not look into the possibility of hiring a caterer, waiter/waitress, bar tender, cocktail bar, or even a cleaner for the next day.
- Make sure you remember to buy in food for breakfast, including the hangover cures.
CountdownUp to one week ahead- organise the music/entertainment/lighting
- order drinks, glasses, ice
- plan your menu
- prepare any food that can be frozen in advance
- plan your serving dishes
- buy long-life/dry food items
- order any fresh food you can
- warn your neighbours about the party
The day before- clear out the fridge
- buy all the fresh food (apart from the most perishable items such as shellfish)
- don't forget to buy in food for the next morning, and plenty of it - you may have unexpected overnight guests
- buy plenty of bin liners
- stock up on painkillers and hangover cures
- prepare as much food as possible
- start chilling drinks
On the day- arrange the room, prepare the bar area, serving plates, napkins, and so on
- buy and prepare last-minute food
- give yourself plenty of time to get ready - after all, it's your party and you want to look and feel great
