Birmingham born and bred, Aktar’s exposure to British cuisine and the strong influence from his culture and heritage are what have shaped his approach and unique style; taking authentic cultural delicacies from the Indian subcontinent and combining them with modern innovative techniques and the best local produce sourced from independent ethical suppliers.
He started working at his father’s restaurant at the age of 13. With no formal qualifications and learning everything he knows through working, Aktar opened his restaurant, Lasan, when he was 22 years old. The restaurant was recently listed at no 49 in the “Times 100 best restaurants in the UK”.
