Up All Night

Rhod Sharp, Kevin Anderson and Chris Vallance blog for Up All Night

Up All Night

Chris Vallance - 21 February 2006

On this week's pods and blogs segment we began with a conversation with Peter M Sandman an expert in crisis communications who told us that when it came to bird-flu governments shouldn't panic about panic. We got the idea of talking to him from the excellent bird-flu blog Effect Measure , run by an anonymous group of public health officials.

Blogger Tammy Bruce kicked up a mini-maelstrom in the world of women's ski jumping when she launched a campaign to have the sport included in Olympic competition. We also spoke with Alissa Johnson a world ranked US ski jumper. She had to sit on the sidelines at the winter Olympics as she watched he brother represent the US. And we checked in with the first blog competition featured on the show.

The Big Brother style Ultimate Blogger 2 competition is about to begin. We spoke to Mike Merrill, one of the organizers.

After the news and sport we took a look at two groups with different approaches to video on the web. Videobomb is a site where users vote for video clips which are then featured in channels. Fulldisclosure .net is a more politically focused site that aims to videoblog interviews revealing the "news behind the news"

A blook is, in simple terms, a blog that has become a book. Nominations have just concluded for the Lulu Blooker Prize . We spoke to one of the judges Paul Jones.

And finally we looked at the campaign to Save the 76 Ball . More details at this indescribably fascinating article
