The Story:
Three young female soul singers Deena Jones (Knowles), Effie White (Jennifer Hudson), and Lorrell Robinson (Anika Noni Rose) dream of becoming pop stars in the early 1960s. They get their wish when they're picked to be backup singers for the legendary James "Thunder" Early (Murphy), and lead vocals beckon.
But their harmony is upset when James, Curtis Taylor (Foxx), and Effie's brother C.C. (Robinson) decide that Deena should be lead singer, to the disappointment of Effie. This big screen version of the Broadway musical contains both original and new songs, and it's one movie the whole family will enjoy.
