The director of Apollo 13, Backdraft and Ransom returns with his latest offering, which BBC Movies calls "a rousing sports drama based on a true story".
Ron Howard once again directs Russell Crowe, as in the award-winning A Beautiful Mind . Crowe plays a boxer, Jim Braddock, who falls upon hard times during the Great Depression when the stock market crashes and he breaks his hand, leaving him unable to box, and therefore unable to provide for his wife (Renee Zellweger) and three children.
When his manager (Paul Giametti, from Sideways) gets him one last fight, Braddock has a chance to turn his life around in the ring.
