LA STORY...

Some writers would fight to get their name removed from Lethal Weapon 4, but not Miles Millar and his co-writing partner Alfred Gough. The duo recognised the Mel Gibson franchise for what it was: an impossible-to-ignore calling card. Their 'story by' credit on the 1998 pic gave them access to the Hollywood studios, and they've used the opportunity superbly.

The Owen Wilson/Jackie Chan caper Shanghai Noon (2000) spawned a London-set sequel, Shanghai Knights (2003), and they also received a writing credit on Spider-Man 2 (you may have heard of it). They're best known, however, for originating and writing Smallville, the hit Superman series that takes the Boy of Steel and drops him into Dawson's Creek territory. Millar has two more movies on the way: Herbie: Fully Loaded, which reinvents the wheel-spinning antics of the VW Beetle in August 2005, and Iron Man, based on the Marvel Comics character.
