SYNOPSIS OF STORY

I was walking around my local park and I was struck by all the benches that are memorials to dead people. I came back and just started messing around with the shots. I'm not sure there is a story beyond "people like the park, then they die".

Director - Cris Usher

I shot the film on my digital camera, using a tripod. I used the highest quality setting but that limited the amount I could shoot because of the memory card. I shot 22 scenes in the end but the finished film has only a fraction of them. The trains were a bonus, and give the film some movement. I edited using Windows Movie Maker, adding the music from the downloads page on this site. I enjoyed fading in the natural sound for the train scenes and timing them with the music. Including shooting, the whole process took me about four hours.

Wheres the benches?

lt
like the idea, but it should have been more planned

BIG M
wow - you are very clever. You made one minute feel like two minutes! Yawn...

Rubber Duck
Nice use of Tripod.

I agree with the train comments, they didn't need to be there. They kind of led away from the meaning of the film, which was that there is a park devoid of life, yet there are all these benches dedicated to people which denotes that it was once a busy place. The trains just interfered with that by showing 'life' .

The trains were definitely NOT a bonus. They were an intrusion. Good idea with the park benches, but some editing cuts were a bit too fast - and maybe a solo piano piece (Satie) rather than an orchestrated piece? Yup, everyone's a critic.

Seth Rosenthal
No concept really...not from what is seen anyway

What? What? I was expecting a pop video. In all fairness I thought it was quite original, I just think it could have a better title.

sugar shorts
the best photography so far. not 2 sure about the content and story.

Too many trains. They railroaded throught the idea. I thought that without the trains this would have been better. Perhaps slow fades or slow zooms in and out of photographs would've had the movement needed. Use of trains seems opposed to the tranquil nature of the music and what I *think* the film was trying to say. Half way there. Nice to hear Grieg so often in these films.

I found this slighly amusing...i didnt look at the story as "people like the park, then they die" because not 1 scene other than the train bit shows a living being...a very apt title indeed

Terry
I thought if it were'nt for the train scene and the sound given off by it, it would not of been that effective

Movie Critic
Some good ideas but not enuff scenes of the benches etc 2 give an idea of wats goin on - the trains looked they were about to crash which was almost an unexpected twist!

Martin
Dissolves between each scene would have worked better with this film. I liked the train shots and music

Herman
Bad/good enough to win the Turner prize

Krishin
Quite touching, but could be better with a lot more movement. Trains were cool, though,

what a waste of a minute

I must say that there were a few good camera shots, ok 2 or 3. But i dont know about the "people like the park, then they die". If you going to do a one minute movie atleast make it as enjoyable for others as possible. One minute is along time to waste on watching meaningless, pointless so called "movies" .

Isabella
I thought the 1 min film was really effective, the lack of speech made the whole thing quite powerful and moving. Thanks lol!

I liked the ambience created by the lack of people in the park, it was made more poignant when you seen the names on the benches. Although, I did have to read the synopsis and re-watch it to fully understand the impact it was making. Cheers Ilana
