SYNOPSIS OF STORY

Every year on the 5th November, the locals in Ottery St Mary run around the streets carrying burning barrels. It's a great attraction, and a carnival atmosphere pervades the whole town. But is it safe...?

Director - Ben Clay

I'm an engineer in Wells, Somerset. One wife, three children, mortgage, etc. I always thought I had an artistic streak (acting is one of those "if only" jobs), and when I got a little digital camera, I began to film as well as snap.
Also directed: Fountain Training

Boring

Zig
Boring. By the time I got to the end of this longest minute of my life I was almost asleep to read the credits.

Ray
Who shot this flaming film

spacemonkey
Far enough away were you ben? Very brave!

Linkir
So flamimg tar barrels are dangerous. We know that! Old crazy traditions, we know that too. Where was the originality and talent in this? Any of us can go out and film a loony local festival. To enter it into a competition for creativity is an insult to all those who've made a real effort. Go away and don't come back.

Brian
amybe a voice- over from a local. not sure about the titles.

Hmmm... bored dad getting carried away with Movie Maker

joe hunter
not really a movie par se, rather a you- been-framed moment with an absence of punchline or baby falling over

Ali
who was the SOB who thought of that it wasnt even werth callin a short film, if i ever meat the guy who made it i'll kick his ass!

Me
'H&S be damned'- yes until some poor kid in the crowd is killed! I think it just shows that stupid, pointless events like this (throwing cheese down a hill) still happen and common sense wont prevail until someone is seriouslt hurt or killed. Nice topic for a short film, though i agree end creds were alittle over the top.

wow

parker
It looks very dangerous and will no doubt be banned some day (although bull runs and cliff diving will be fine obviously) One minute moies dont have to have a narrative..or point and thought the credits were OTT .Ok

Scot Kenwood
This OMM demonstrates how totally unnecessary special effects are when you have a flaming barrel of tar, and a couple of hundred lunatics (no doubt full of cider) running about with it and screaming a lot. Makes a powerful point about 'Nanny- State' health and safety, and the importance of taking responsibility for ones own actions. May eventually be a useful historical document.

Tony Pattison
Wiered folk these Yokels. Perhaps I should have tried that with my old Space Wagon!

Iker
It has wit... But I don't think this is a good idea for a minute movie

matteo
not a short film, not a documentary. Have you got a lighter btw?

aim lo
could've got closer to the action and better use of editing would have helped plus a climax is usually effective

TB
A bit long, I would have missed out one or two barrels, but I understand and I like the credits.

and the point is............. ............... ............... ........?????

laura
falls asleep

'H&S be damned' - indeed!!! nice film - i guess it's even more bizarre actually being there!

PAC
fine for about 10 seconds then just got boring.

Chris
Very thought provoking! We are a nation built on tradition, it might sometimes be mad but its what we are and so we should embrace it. Very good.

Colin Donovan
They only know about cider in Somerset - stick to that my man

Ryano
I liked the credits.
