BBCi FILMS - Readers' Reviews

Sue
It's enjoyable, but only as a final installment.

oshinne
very good graphics

Anders
Some good jokes but a slightly thin story; fairly American in places but good to hear English voice-overs too.

I think that the normal critics do not watch the films in a childs point of view but i admit that it wasnt best shrek they have ever made but it is definetly a good family film to see on a rainy day and it is a good story line but the first will always will always will the best of my childhood films. I am an 11 year old but i belive i can put a point to a chids film!

took grand children really enjoyed the film they did to nice day out watched all the shrek films and enjoyed them all.

Frank
my 4 year older daughter who loved the first two found this one scary, and was frightened and crying after 30 mins and we had to leave after a while. Definatley an older age group film than the previous 2, less charm, more bang crash wallop.

What is it with the number 3? This follows the failure of threequels this year. It should have gone straight to video it is that bad. For non brains only.

Richie
Purely for the non discerning and very little kids. We're no longer in fantasy land folks - we're into american parenthood. Gawd!

Vince
The original movie wickedly lampooned fairy stories and Disney cartoons combining adult and child humour. This one lacks any charm, wit or story and is a complete waste of time. It's all about families and is conventional as any soap. The dragon/donkey offspring were quite unsettling as to their origin. Only 'Artie' is new, otherwise it is just more of the same all american jokes. Boring.

Cliff
The first couple of movies had charm, wit and invention. This is as charming as the Prince and takes the story nowhere. It's a poor animated soap that may appeal to minors purely with its visuals which were excellent.

Bob
Terrible, shameless cashing in for the Summer. Save for the ever reliable ginger bread mand this was pap. Maybe I'm just too cynical for this series but I felt it ran out of steam 25 minutes into the first installment.

More of the same. The great fairy story re-writes and play on words. Shrek The Third doesn't have the best storyline but that doesn't take away from the entertainment. Snow White sending the bird attack is comic genius. Great sunday afternoon family entertainment, you won't be bored as there is something for everyone, but the plot is not anything we haven't seen before. ****

One Shrek too many.Tecnically ok; but a very weak film. Please, no Shrek the fourth.

I kept waiting for the cool music and jokes to appear. That didn't happen until the last 10 minutes. I was disappointment

i thought it was very funny...strangely seems more pitched for adults. My 9 year old daughter did seem quite dissapointed with the movie and she is a major Shrek fan. Serious lack of big set piece to round off at the end. Donkey is outshined by PIB well done banderos

Excellant

Had the fortune of seeing a preview Today! Shrek Fans will of course love it, but it is becoming tiresome now, same old gags, same old Story, same old Shrek. Please lets leave it there, George Lucas should of left it after 3 Movies! Go & see but don't expect any Originality.

Shrek was lauded rightly so for both its exceptional animation and satirical homage to the traditional childrens fairy tale stories. This sequel is entertaining enough continuing with the humour and direction, sure enough the animation has never looked better. However it simply doesnt hit the mark as well as its predecessors, suffering from weaker writing and loss of its original energy.

Joe Richardson
A charming, gem of a film. More of the same of course, but superb animation and great jokes. The king's death bed scene was particularly funny and the kids in the cinema audience clearly loved the movie judging by the cackles, gaffaws and chuckles eminating around the cinema. Go see and take your kids with you, they'll have a great time.

Disappointing. One Shrek too far.Technically great, but the film weak.

The first movie was a gem. The second had moments of pure genius (e.g. pinnochio / thong moment). The third was very poor indeed - donkey & puss-in-boots did nothing. There were two moments of class however - Merlin's introduction and the Ginger Bread Man's bottom burp. Otherwise there was no other memorable moment. I would have given the movie a "1" if it wasn't for these two moments.

When you think of Shrek you think fun, laughs and total family entertainment. Well Shrek the Third is a total let down, no story, no humour and not an ounce of what made the first 2 movies a success. Avoid at all costs.

Joe Richardson
A gem of a film, charming and entertaining. More of the same, of course but the kids in the audience loved it to bits judging by the infectious pre-adolescent chuckles and gaffaws. Superb animation, jokes and set pieces, particularly the King's hilarious death bed scene. Overall a very good third part to a trilogy that makes you wish you were 5 years old all over again. Long Live Shrek.

The film makers should have looked more closely at the film's original roots, ie fairy stories and not just contemporary american humour which goes over non american heads. This film is unfunny, adds absolutely nothing new and is really tedious. Avoid.

beth jordan
really enjoyed the film... very funny.
