BBCi FILMS - Readers' Reviews

hayley halliday
not earth shattering, but an enjoyable film nonetheless

Alex London
An excellent period drama, although Beatrix Potter does sometimes seem to be a little too Bridget Jones.

gazman
As a romance it succeeds but Beatrix Potter was an amazing woman whose life and achievements have been sold short by this movie.

Richard
Not true to life.

Ros Dunbar
A beautiful, amazing film. Thoroughly enoyed it.

Dave L
Excellently cast and acted. A good evening out with the wife or girl friend - but take a box of tissues with you!

Madeline
What a lovely film. Magical, inspiring and dramatic, I had a mighty blub too! 5/5.

this was the best film I have seen in years.

stella walter
i would love to go see it it looks brilent

Colin
I really enjoyed this film. A simple story well told. No car chases, explosions or violence. It captures the early 1900s and the social mores really well. I'll remember this movie long after I've forgotten recent 'blockbu sters'. Definitely worth four stars.

Stephen Rowley
Not for all but certainly worth a look if you are a fan of the books. For a film that has been slammed by the critics I know a lot of people who have thoroughly enjoyed it. Go see it, you'll like it I promise!

Lindsay
A lovely, sweet heart- warming film, with a delightful portrayal of Beatrix Potter's life, and an insight into her imagination, and the characters she called her friends.

Calum Price
Great story, great acting, great film... Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor are amazing than ever. They're far more better than they were in Down With Love. 10/10

m
brilliant acting, well cast. great animation sequences. romantic, tear-jerker and funny. forget the teen-movies see another great british film.

David S
Whimisical but enjoyable nonetheless. However I can't help thinking that Ms Zellwegger has cornered the market in playing frumpy single English woman who aspire to work in publishing.

Beautifully produced, this is a tour de force by Renee Zellweger who confirms her status as one of the most versitile actors currently working. A wonderfull evocation of a gentle, if pampered, lifestyle which portrays Potter as a truely remarkable woman.

Does the film even mention that she was a groundbreaking scientist? Of course the Royal Society paid no attention to her. The mere idea of a woman scientist was an impossibility. Sadly it seems to be ridiculous to the director now. A woman scientist? Who would be interested in that? Rabbits? Mice? Let's Disneyize her! Pity the idea of women + science still = threatening to so many people.

An excelent, hand-crafted, quality film destined to be a regular family favourite at holiday time. Fantastic Lakeland scenery, sensitive acting and a sympathetic and interesting interpretation of the life of Miss Beatrix Potter. It is a film that will be appreciated by anybody who has enjoyed her books. Even steam train enthusiasts will find something to enjoy in this delightful film.

tim brown
a beautifully made film from start to finish

martin kimber
Ok, so I watched it in Lake District this week with my legs still burning from climbing one of its highest points the day before with my oldest son, and we still have his Peter Rabbit cup from 20 years ago as a standbye when all others are in the dishwasher, but I smiled as soon as this film started, kept smiling and laughing thru several bouts of moist eyes and a crusty old cynic was won! See it

Andy Chalmers
A national treasure... destroyed. How sad it was to witness one of the most important woman's story abused in this fashion. This was a film that was so easy to make a success, with the backdrop of the lake district scenery and such a great story to tell. Instead we have an Edwardian Bridget Jones meets a super cast of British actors - whom have no dialogue to work with. Distressing !

I saw a preview screening of this film. Its delightful in all respects - a great family film. Wonderful acting and beautifully filmed. Highly recommended.

Claire
I usually like Zellweger but she was truly cringeworthy in this. Ewan was perfect but the director seemed to lack, well direction for this film. Don't expend much effort to see this. Kids will be bored to tears.

Anne Barker
Zellweger as Miss Potter is inspired, and McGregor gives a nuanced performance. Phyllida Law's cameo as the Warne matriarch was notable. Judicious animation didn't offend against taste. Beautifully filmed, the story of Miss Potter's thwarted love is definitely a tear- jerker.

michelle dennett
British historical films, should be portrayed by a british actress. I disagree with Ms Zellweger playing Miss potter.

Elaine
Beautifully shot and well acted throughout. A real treat.

phil
'Nice' Not great or particularily bad but very... nice. Refreshing change from the normal dum violence on offer though. Major problem is putting Zellweger up against Emily Watson who acted her off the screen and should really have been cast in the title role.

michael
Complete and utter gash

this looks great I can't wait for it to come out. Me and some of my friends are going to see it when it comes on screen
