  Atonement Leads Gold Rush
And so it begins… Awards season has dawned with the announcement of the 2008 Golden Globe nominations, and it's Atonement leading the charge. The British wartime drama scored seven nominations in categories including writing and direction. Leading players Keira Knightley and James McAvoy have also been recognised. The latter is pitted against the mighty Daniel Day-Lewis for his part in the Paul Thomas Anderson drama There Will Be Blood.

Ridley Scott's American Gangster and David Cronenberg's London-set thriller Eastern Promises are among the other major contenders, and the Coen brothers are being heavily tipped for their adaptation of No Country For Old Men. Get the full list of nominations on the BBC News site.
  Bond Buzz
For once it seems that Daniel Craig has said too much. After speaking to ITV show This Morning the internet is buzzing with speculation about the official title of Bond 22. He said something along the lines of, "It's more of a number. Because the first movie dealt with him earning his 00 status and now he is 007 for the first time." When asked if the title was simply '007', he tried to change the subject.

The annual game of guess and conjecture continues with reports that St Trinian's actress Gemma Arterton has landed a major role. According to The Sun (pass the salt), an insider at Eon Productions said, "She has the modern look".
  Frost Goes Beyond
Talk about modern; the newly resurrected Hammer Films will distribute their first film in three decades via MySpace. Sadie Frost will lead the cast in Beyond The Rave, a 'youth-skewed' vampire story set against the underground rave party scene. It follows a hedonistic soldier on a quest to track down his missing girlfriend in the last 24 hours before he flies to Iraq, but then he's annoyingly waylaid by bloodthirsty demons.

We're guessing someone's been dropping a few E's… First-timer Matthias Hoene will direct the story in a series of 20-minute webisodes, because let's face it kids, that's all your attention span can handle.
  Vaughn's Xmas Unwrapped
Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon are failing to get into the proper spirit on the set of Four Christmases. According to The New York Daily News, filming on the comedy is being held up as director Seth Gordon plays referee in their daily scraps. An unnamed source reckons, "Vince rolls onto set in the morning looking like he just came in from a night out, while Reese will arrive early looking camera-ready. Then Reese tries to force Vince into blocking out each scene and running through their lines as Vince tries to convince her that he's an ad-libber and wants to play around and see where the scene goes."

The blabbermouth adds, "She's a one-take perfectionist and Vince likes to try it a few different ways. Sometimes Vince will be standing behind her and he has this look on his face that he just wants to kill her!" And a Happy New Year!
  Directing The Titans
Brit helmer Steve Norrington has been hired to direct Clash Of The Titans - no, not the unofficial sequel to Four Christmases. It's the Warner Bros remake of the 1981 mythical adventure best remembered for Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion effects. Lawrence Kasdan has rewritten the original script by Travis Beacham (ouch) and cameras are due to roll in the first half of next year.

Norrington hasn't directed a film since The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003 - we can't think why... Our guess is that he's been hired on the basis of his previous work as a special effects and makeup technician.
