  Scorsese Goes Medieval
Martin Scorsese is planning a big screen adaptation of Eric Jager's historical tome The Last Duel: A True Story Of Crime, Scandal And Trial By Combat In Medieval France. (Make a note to change title.) The aforementioned duel occurred in 1386 between knights Jean de Carrouges and Jacques LeGris, and was the last sanctioned by the government under King Charles IV.

However, this mightn't be Scorsese's next film, as the project is in the very early stages of development. At the moment he's working on a documentary about The Rolling Stones, a British rock band who formed around 1386...
Smith Puts Money On My Wife
Will Smith will produce the comedy My Wife Hates Your Wife for Columbia Pictures. The early signs are worrying as Gina Wendkos has been hired to write the script - her credits include The Princess Diaries and Coyote Ugly.

It's perhaps obvious what the story is about, but... It follows two couples who do everything together until the ladies fall into a tooth-and-claw feud and the guys must sneak around to continue their friendship. There's no official word on whether Smith will star as well as produce, but Wendkos might come after him with a kitchen knife if he doesn't.
  Harrelson & Kingsley On Track
Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton and Ben Kingsley are booked aboard Trans-Siberian. That's the next film by The Machinist helmer Brad Anderson. This time he's got a bigger budget at $15m, and will blow it all by shooting in exotic locations including Beijing, Russia and Lithuania from 11th December.

It's a crime thriller centring on an American couple (Harrelson and Morton) travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway from China to Moscow. When they meet another couple (Kate Mara and Eduardo Noriega), the result is a train ride full of deception and murder. Kingsley will play a Russian police officer in pursuit of both couples. Think Strangers On A Train meets Wife Swap.
  All About O Russell
After getting lost up his own 'O' with I Heart Huckabees, director David O Russell is producing teen comedy All About Me. The script will be penned by no-name actress Jenna Lamia (eek) and tell the story of a high school drama student who will do absolutely anything to be famous. Anyone feeling the irony?

We're willing to bet our lunch money that Lamia will also star in the film and that at some point Russell will realise this is all beneath him and go make a comedy about the absurdity of mortality and the transience of life and the inevitability of self lovin' - and stuff.
  Schrader's New Shorts
Luminaries of cinema including Paul Schrader, Neil LaBute and Zak Penn (nobody mention Inspector Gadget) are on the hunt for new filmmaking talent. They will be among the judging panel in a series of competitions organised by Filmaka.com looking for original one-to-three-minute shorts.

It's expected that $150,000 in prize money will be doled out in the course of 2007, but one lucky person will be awarded a contract to make a feature film. So, with Christmas around the corner, it's time to start dropping hints about that digicam you've always wanted.
