  Cohen On Cutting Room Floor
No, Borat hasn't been barred by the censors. According to Production Weekly, Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to star opposite Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's big screen take on Sweeney Todd. The controversial comic will probably channel his limp-wristed alter ego Brüno to play hairdresser Signor Adolfo Pirelli who provides a little competition for the demon barber of Fleet Street.

It's a safe bet since this will be a musical based on the Stephen Sondheim songbook. Cameras are scheduled to roll in February at Pinewood Studios.
  Evacuating Dallas
The cast for the big screen remake of Dallas are dropping like Texan mayflies. It was set to shoot in November, but the suits at New Regency have given actors Shirley MacLaine and Luke Wilson their marching orders. Talks have also broken down with Meg Ryan who had been in line to play boozy floozy Sue Ellen. Only John Travolta remains on board to play chuckling oil baron JR Ewing.

Brit helmer Gurinder Chadha will not commit to direct until she knows who the replacements are, but apparently she wasn't happy with the cast anyway. That's academic though as disagreements over money have prompted the cull. New Regency have failed to raise the $65m budget so are on the hunt for cheaper supporting players. Wendy Richard for Miss Ellie anyone?
  Cameron's In A Sanctum
James Cameron will co-write and produce the humbly titled James Cameron's Sanctum. It's a drama to be shot next spring in high-definition 3-D with former documentary helmer (and regular Cameron collaborator) Gary Johnstone directing. The story revolves around a father and son deep-sea diving team who get caught in a life-threatening situation in the uncharted depths.

Despite the ambitious technology and undersea setting, the film is modestly budgeted at $20m. Of course it would be much cheaper for Cameron if he just sought therapy for his Freudian obsession with dark, watery chambers and cavernous cracks...
  Bullock Stalks Steve
Sandra Bullock will do her falling-over-and-funny-face thang in All About Steve. Fox 2000 has just snapped up the spec script by up-and-coming writer Kim Barker for Bullock's production company Fortis Films. It tells the bizarre story of a brilliant but barmy crossword-puzzler who doggedly stalks a news cameraman across the USA.

  Goodman Marked For Death
John Goodman has signed up for Death Sentence. Saw helmer James Wan is calling the shots on this hardcore vigilante drama starring Kevin Bacon as the father out for revenge after his family is brutally attacked in a gang-initiation crime. Goodman will play an arms dealer and the boss of a drug ring that includes his two sons played by Garrett Hedlund (Four Brothers) and Matthew O'Leary (Brick).

Leigh Whannell (co-writer and star of Saw) also has a part in the film as a gang member nicknamed Stink. Kids can be so cruel.
