Garner Captures The Kingdom
Jennifer Garner is joining Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper in The Kingdom. They'll play a team of counter-terrorist agents who are despatched to the Middle East to investigate the bombing of a US compound. It's a long way from Friday Night Lights for actor-turned-director Peter Berg.
Having a baby hasn't slowed down Garner at all. She's just wrapped on another series of Alias and comedy drama Catch And Release. Does this mean hubbie Ben Affleck is stuck at home in a vomit-drenched sweatshirt? No change there then.

Brosnan Commits To Marriage
Chris Cooper is keeping busy. He along with Pierce Brosnan, Patricia Clarkson and Rachel McAdams are committing to noirish thriller Marriage. It's a 1940s-set yarn about a married man (Cooper) who indulges in an affair (with McAdams) then in order to spare his wife (Clarkson) the humiliation of divorce chooses to kill her instead (calling The Matador!). Yeah, that's really killing her with kindness...
Indie filmmaker Ira Sachs is hoping to shoot the film in July from a script he co-wrote with pal Oren Moverman.

Kutcher's Career Bloom
Being Demi Moore's toyboy surely pays well, but Ashton Kutcher's life is about to get just a little cushier. He's being paid $10m and part of the profits to star in an untitled comedy for Sony Pictures. The studio has just shelled out $2m-$3m for the pitch by Hitch scribe Kevin Bisch.
It's not a million miles away from the premise of Hitch with Kutcher playing an LA florist whose real art is orchestrating make-ups and break-ups for busy Angelinos. You can say it with flowers but money talks louder, eh, Ashton?

Campbell Enters The Ring
Neve Campbell has signed up for epic drama Closing The Ring. Veteran director Richard Attenborough is calling the shots on this tale of a WWII pilot who crashes near Belfast and asks the man who finds him to return an engagement ring to his girlfriend in America. Apparently though, the ring bearer has little sense of direction as the quest takes half a century.
Campbell is obviously the girlfriend with Shirley MacLaine already on board to play an older (and presumably drunker) version of her. Christopher Plummer, Brenda Fricker and Pete Postlethwaite are on the bill too. The ring bearer has yet to be cast, so there's still hope for Andy Serkis.

Hendrix Flick Nixed
Plans for a Jimi Hendrix biopic have been scuppered by a British court. UK production outfit Dragonslayer Films sought the rights to Hendrix's music from British lawyer John Hillman. Apparently the legendary musician signed a contract with him in 1966, but The High Court has ruled it invalid and said that permissions may only be sought through the foundation Experience Hendrix.
The decision follows a bizarre episode in April when Dragonslayer issued press releases claiming it had secured Hendrix's likeness, music and live footage and hired Quentin Tarantino as director. Unfortunately QT denied all knowledge. Oh, well. There's always the Milli Vanilli story...
