Alien 5? In Hollywood no one can hear you scream: fanboy writer-director Paul WS Anderson has been asked by 20th Century Fox to pen the fifth film in the Alien franchise. According to reports on BBC's Teletext, the critically-derided British helmer is getting ready to write the next instalment in the long-running franchise on the back of his work on upcoming monster mash crossover flick AVP: Alien Vs Predator.
That may come as something of a surprise to anyone who recalls Anderson telling The Daily Telegraph back in August that he would probably turn down any offers to get involved in the Alien movies. Fickle? Who, moi? However, one question remains: will Sigourney Weaver be coaxed back for another entry in the bug hunting series? The jury's still out.
AVP: Alien Vs Predator is unleashed in the UK on Friday 22 October. |

Foxx Meets Executioner Rising star Jamie Foxx (Collateral) looks set to meet his maker in spy thriller The Executioner's Game. It's the heard-it-all-before story of an operative for a shadowy government agency (yep, this sounds familiar) who has to track down his mentor after the old man goes rogue (you can wake up now). Novelist Gary Hardwicke is inked in to adapt his not-yet-published novel for the big screen with Foxx playing the crusading secret service operative. "The Executioner's Game is a little bit of a departure for me, because it has more action," Hardwicke gushed to Variety. You're not exactly filling us with confidence, Gazza. |

Woo Stuck In The Circle Asian action director John Woo is looking back to the past with a remake of John Pierre Melville's classic French noir Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle). The original 1970 existential thriller starred Gallic heartthrob Alain Delon as a criminal who pulls off an elaborate Parisian jewel heist. Now Woo is planning to update it for the new millennium.
"John has been obsessed with the original film since he saw it, and you can see some influence on his Hong Kong films," nattered Woo's producing partner Terence Chang. "John has wanted to go back to his roots a bit, and this is a good opportunity to make something different from the rest of his American films." In other words, Woo's hoping that remaking this classic film noir might erase the painful memories of the dreadful Paycheck. Not a chance.

Bug Horror He may be afraid of the dark, but director Jonathan Liebesman (Darkness Falls) is still making horror films. The helmer has just signed on to direct Dead Asleep, the story of a small American town that's infested by insects that burrow into their victims and eat them from the inside out. Yuck, whatever next? Already being shamelessly hyped up as a cross between breakout British zombie flick 28 Days Later and the viral thrills of non-fiction bestseller The Hot Zone, it sounds like it might just be nasty enough to get under horror fans skins. Boom, boom. |

J-Lo Says Come Dancing And we end with some weird news: Jennifer Lopez is preparing to shake her famous derriere by opening her own dance school. The Latin singer turned model turned (*cough*) actress is setting up a salsa school near where she grew up in the Bronx reports FemaleFirst.co.uk. A gobby source close to the star told the website: "Jennifer loves dancing so she thought it would be a great idea. She is even planning to teach some of the salsa classes herself." Ah, bless her, what a lovely gesture. Meanwhile, in a spooky moment of complete and absolute coincidence, J-Lo's next on-screen outing will see her jiving next to Richard Gere in hoofing comedy drama Shall We Dance. See what Jenny did there? |
