Hollywood ingénue Kate Bosworth campaigns for teen queen status in Win A Date With Tad Hamilton, "a formulaic romantic comedy laced with gentle showbiz satire". It didn't set the box office alight, but that may not be a bad thing, since the young star will next appear in much meatier dramas, including Kevin Spacey's biopic of legendary crooner Bobby Darin and Richard Gere project Bee Season, about a man obsessed with his daughter's efforts to win a national spelling competition.
Director Robert Luketic - who also helmed Reese Witherspoon vehicle Legally Blonde - doesn't appear anywhere on this DVD. There's no audio commentary and even the standard issue 'making of' featurette is absent. Instead we're offered a whopping 16 (mostly dull) deleted scenes, a vaguely amusing gag reel, and a photo gallery, which is almost as exciting as watching the entire movie frame by frame.
We'll Always Have Paris
Party girl Paris Hilton seems to be carving a career out of deleted scene cameos (see The Cat In The Hat) and has the best of an otherwise bland bunch on this DVD - literally parachuting into the picture.
As you'll discover in the epic gag reel, the drop was quite a delicate operation and Paris didn't get it right the first time. Unfortunately she doesn't hurt herself, so there's absolutely no entertainment value in it. In fact, the only outtakes approaching funny involve Josh Duhamel (Tad Hamilton), who prepares for each scene by shaking loose and making horny ape sounds. Look closely enough and you may spot Kate Bosworth looking for the exit. Likewise, you may be searching for the eject button by this time.
