The In-Laws DVD (2003)

Admittedly, our assertion that The In-Laws is "a cack-handed action comedy, with the stars adrift in incompetently staged action sequences", isn’t too tempting. We did compliment an "engaging" Albert Brooks and if you’re a keen fan of his, this DVD may be worth renting.

Don't Talk During The Movie!

Despite opening his commentary by claiming not to like it when people talk through the movies, director Andrew Fleming does just this, as he discusses the working process of Albert Brooks, which involves him coming up with many variations on every scene.

More Brooks?

It’s therefore surprising that in the Multiple Takes with Albert Brooks section of the DVD there are only two scenes shown in all their improvisational glory. Fans should enjoy the footage, especially of Brooks in a cramped airplane bathroom. There are also three deleted scenes, although these were quite rightly left out of the finished movie. Elsewhere, Michael Douglas provides some laughs in the mildly amusing gag reel.
