One of our complaints about X-Men 2 was that "the screenwriters didn't bother with a coherent story". There's certainly no shortage of explanations on the value-packed two disc DVD release of this mutant heroes adventure sequel.
Explain Yourselves
Director Bryan Singer and cinematographer Tom Sigel are your companions for audio commentary one. They make up for some incredibly lame jokes with a reasonable dissection of the shoot, but their chat does not make for riveting listening. Track two is better, with the writing team explaining the plot of the movie, which in this case is rather handy.
A Feast Of Plenty
You can gorge yourself on behind-the-scenes material on disc two. The most enjoyable highlight is a cool tour of the impressive sets in the Evolution In The Details featurette. In comparison, the hour-long making of documentary is a bit long-winded but contains good footage of what was clearly a luxurious production of quality art design.
Deleted But Why?
Curiously the 11 deleted scenes on disc two don't come with a commentary, so it's up to you to work out why they were removed from the final cut. Elsewhere explanations fly thick and fast in featurettes on the special effects, the score of the movie, costume design, and more. Somehow it's not as entertaining as the material on the X-Men 1.5 DVD. But then, if you're most interested in watching the movie, this DVD kicks mutant ass with an aggressive DTS mix that will give your amp special powers.
