27th August 2003
I have no idea how two or three weeks went by without my even noticing. It simply doesn't add up. So much happens in a week, I can barely keep track.
This morning I was riding in a town car to LAX reading over my itinerary for Dallas, and saw that I have a number of television appearances on local movie shows.
This is going to be fun. I can talk about my dream projects, like working with Scott Baio and the Olsen Twins (preferably in the same film), and how "Cabin Fever" is engineered to make teenagers have sex.
I realised what I was doing, and what I was thinking about, and couldn't help but laugh. A year ago I was completely broke, about $25,000 on my credit card, and had everyone's money on the line. We had an unfinished film, and all we were thinking about was the Toronto Film Festival. Our screening there was on 12th September last year and, a year later, it is our US release date.
Harry Knowles from Aint It Cool News came out with a Toronto report that said: "If there's one movie you see this year, go see "Cabin Fever"." He's so kick-ass, that guy! He's become a real good friend.
OK, where was I?
The premiere we had on 8th August was actually really fun. My parents flew out and I got made up like a character named Kakihara, who's in this film "Ichi the Killer" that I'm obsessed with. The film really played well, and everyone had a great time.
Right after, I flew to NYC to do press for "Cabin Fever", then I came back to finish "Scavenger Hunt", which I still owe to Universal. I was so burned out I went to upstate New York for a week with my family to write, and wound up sleeping the whole time!
I think I should be hospitalised for exhaustion. All day, every day, I do phone interviews, email interviews, radio, TV, magazines - all I do is promote the film. I love talking about it, I'm just carsick all the time.
10th September 2003
The film is two days away from opening.
All I have done is travel from city to city doing press. I went from LA to Minneapolis, to Philadelphia, to Boston, and then to Connecticut.
Boston was fun. The reporter from The Globe, Geoff Edgers, was great. We spent about two days just hanging out and talking. The Boston Film Festival was a lot of fun, especially since it was in my home town, and I got see a lot of old friends.
Everybody seems really excited for me, but so much has happened I don't even know where to begin.
I am sick all the time now. I constantly have jetlag. My voice is gone from doing press. I got back on Tuesday and have only just slept. My parents are so happy though. We celebrated my father's 65th birthday on Sunday. We gathered in Connecticut at our investors' premiere in their home town of Fairfield. It was exhausting, and I had fun, but would have probably preferred to just stay home and sleep. My throat is so sore and I just need to save my energy.

"Cabin Fever" opened today. Oh my God...
