Kiss of the Dragon DVD (2001)

Jet Li takes offence to the Gallic charms of some Parisian hoodlums, and dispenses his retorts with the type of persuasive force that's always exciting to watch. As you'll see from the DVD of "Kiss of the Dragon", Li is too modest to admit just how good he is.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture With Luc Besson producing, there was little doubting the slick veneer this film would come packaged in. There have been no slip-ups in a smooth transfer to DVD.

Sound A sharp 5.1 sound mix works beautifully to enhance the dynamic action scenes, and isn't afraid to utilise the subwoofer to pile-drive those ferocious blows home.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary Director Chris Nahon and actors Jet Li and Bridget Fonda offer up their thoughts on the film, but given her stronger command of the English language, it's really Fonda's show. So while it's easy to understand Fonda relating a story about a tortoise pooping in her boot, Li and Nahon struggle to get their points across. Li's attitude to work shines through, though, in a comment from him on arriving in France: "In Paris it's like a party. Everybody drink... I worry how they do any work.".

Jet Li - Fighting Philosophy The title of this 11-minute featurette is perhaps a little misleading, as it consists of the cast and crew of the film waxing lyrical about Li's martial arts skills - while Li sits there looking bewildered at the attention. "I just stay at home, watch tapes, or read Buddhist philosophy," he explains.

Corey Yuen - Action Academy Hmm... with the titles of these featurettes, you might be forgiven for assuming that by the end of this DVD you'll be a finely-honed fighting machine. In fact, this is an interesting eight-minute interview with Corey Yuen on his Peking Opera school days, and on what makes Jet Li such an outstanding martial artist.

Police Gymnasium Fight Here you'll find a finished fight scene, along with two rehearsals where Corey Yuen is choreographing the action for the sequence.

On the Set Action This is a two-minute short comparing behind-the-scenes shots of fighting scenes and the finished results.

Additional Extra Features Also on the DVD is a storyboard comparison, an animated storyboard sequence, a cheesy promotional 'making of' featurette, an image gallery, trailer, and six TV spots.
