The remake revived Eddie Murphy out of years in the doldrums, but Jerry Lewis's original was just another hit for the sensationally popular for the entertainer. Now you can relive this manic comedy remastered with typical Paramount TLC, even if it's a little short on extra features
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture Anyone who's seen this film will remember the gaudy colours that run riot in this near hallucinatory film. The transfer to DVD for such an old movie is impeccable, and knocks years off it.
Sound The music score has been remixed into 5.1 to tremendous effect, particularly during the transformation scenes.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Paramount in the 50s This featurette has popped-up on other Paramount DVDs, and while it's interesting, it really only breezes over a decade that launched Audrey Hepburn, saw the successful pairing of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, and a host of Oscars won by the studio. While it does cover some Jerry Lewis films, "The Nutty Professor" wasn't made until 1963, and it would have been good to see the effort put into the technical side of this DVD matched by the special features which are somewhat non-existent. That said, the movie has never looked or sounded better.
Region: 2
