Michael Ritchie's screwball satir, "The Survivors" features the combined talents of Walter Matthau and Robin Williams, who ensure a few bright moments in this uneven comedy that's long been unavailable on video. There's bound to be someone out there who swears this to be "the finest comedy ever made", so for you, here's a DVD review. As this disc has no extras, the three star rating is for sound and picture only.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture For a film made back in 1983 and hardly a hot contender for restoration work by Sony, this movie polishes-up well on disc. The master source is clearly in good condition and the image quality is clean throughout.
Sound What can you say about a mono track? Not much you'd think (but some of us scrape a living out of telling you different), except some of these older recordings distort during louder moments in the film, or lack bass and come out as feeble scratches in your centre speaker. This one though is just fine. Amen to that.
