A massive international hit, and a huge success on video in the UK, "Police Story 2" is one of Jackie Chan's finest and most enjoyable films. Packed with lethal stunts, silly humour, and explosive mayhem, this is a movie that's long been begging for a better release than the old pan and scan Imperial tapes of the 80s.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture Until recent years, a lot of Hong Kong movies tend to retain a slightly washed out look colour-wise. That's certainly true of "Police Story 2", but the transfer is sharp and is a massive improvement over previous video releases.

Sound A new 5.1 mix adds plenty of bass to the music score, and enhances the explosive warehouse scene to good effect. The English track is brighter than the Cantonese one, but then you have to be prepared to put up with the dubbing.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary The track on this DVD is with Jude Poyer, a stuntman cum film critic who has worked with Jackie Chan, and Miles Wood, another film critic. It's obvious that they know their stuff and have enthusiasm for the film, but their dialogue is too descriptive of the action on screen and the phrase "coming up now" is used to the point of irritation. As commentaries go, this one still has plenty to offer, but could be tighter.

Interview Gallery Both Jackie Chan and master kicker Benny Lai are interviewed, and Lai gives us a rooftop demonstration of his formidable skills. There are also contributions from Sammo Hung, Richard Norton, and stunt director Pat Johnson.

Outtake Montage Here's a little reel of pain that will have you shaking your head in disbelief as Jackie manages to gash his head open, cut his face, and somehow get his arm to explode into flames.
