Jonathan Ross' Film of the Week: Zoolander

I thought "Zoolander" was a triumph - though when I saw it, I couldn't understand why people were laughing at the clothes, which seemed pretty restrained to me.

It's a very slender premise and the fashion industry is frankly an easy target, so I wasn't hoping for much. But Ben Stiller's performance is terrific and Owen Wilson, always a joy to watch, takes his spaced out surfer dude persona to a new level with this one.

There are some very funny moments in the script, and some great supporting performances, in particular Will Ferrell, a Saturday Night Live alumnus, as evil fashion king Magatu, and Stiller's dad Jerry as fashion booker Maury Ballstein.

In addition there are cameos from David Bowie, Vince Vaughn, and Jon Voight, and plenty of fun moments. Let's face it: any film which has a joke about a threesome involving a beautiful journalist, a Swedish dwarf, and a Masai warrior is worth watching out of curiosity, if nothing else.

It doesn't outstay its welcome, it's good natured, and I laughed out loud many, many times - which makes it a hit in my book.

Worth adding to your autumn cinematic collection.
