Living in a commune doesn't always work out too well, something clearly demonstrated by Lukas Moodysson's "Together", but there's little wrong with the DVD release of this Swedish 70s hippiefest.
The intentional rough shooting style of the movie lends the picture towards a slight graininess, but the anamorphic DVD transfer doesn't add to it. Colours are bright and vivid, in common with the warm feeling this drama is supposed to generate.
Life in a hippie commune is not lived at a fast pace, and the 2.0 surround track reflects this with front speaker-focused dialogue dominating the film. There are bursts of Swedish 70s musical delights, including Abba, and these moments make good use of all available speakers.
The one complaint about the DVD is the graffiti design animated menus scheme. It wins points for creativity, but it could be a little easier to navigate around. Once you've got the hang of it, there's a short text interview with the director to be found, where he discusses the feelgood mood he was trying to create for this movie. There's also a short biography/filmography for the director where, amongst other things, we learn that he listens to "Eminem's latest".
