Natural Born Killers DVD (1994)

Until recently, it seemed unlikely that we'd ever get to see "Natural Born Killers" on video, let alone DVD. Whether it's been worth the wait is up to you, but there's plenty of ammunition on this disc for both sides of the love/hate club that has formed around this movie.

There's little to complain about in terms of picture quality, with the transfer handling every one of Stone's colour-saturated trick shots with ease.

A 5.1 sound mix adds explosive power to the film, with chaos and destruction engulfing every available speaker to good effect.

Oliver Stone sits in for an audio commentary that's as well prepared and detailed as his effort for the "Platoon" DVD. He's proud of the film and dissects the madness of it in some detail, including the prevailing use of the colour green. He also introduces six deleted scenes, including a monologue from Denis Leary that's typically caustic.

The title of the documentary on the DVD is 'Chaos Rising: The Storm around the Film'. Whether it actually covers the furore that surrounded the movie is open to debate as it's certainly a one-sided affair. However, the interviews with the cast and crew are worth watching, especially when Woody Harrelson muses over why Stone chose him for such an uncharacteristic role.

There's also an alternate ending with an introduction from Stone, a bullish interview with him on The Charlie Rose Show, and the original theatrical trailer.
