Based on the radio play by Dylan Thomas, this film of the lives of the residents of a little Welsh village boasts a tremendously talented cast. Richard Burton's narration is easily the highlight of a tale, now transferred onto a reasonable DVD.
There are plenty of darkly lit scenes, especially in the opening of the film, but the DVD transfer copes quite well with detail that's not lost in a flurry of grain. The print is a little tired-looking but the colours are fine.
The 2.0 sound mix is mono and carries Burton's rich burr quite adequately.
