Coming to America DVD (1988)

Never a favourite of the critics, "Coming to America" is easily more enjoyable than Eddie Murphy's entire 90s output. If you're a fan of this overblown example of 80s comedy fare, then you'll find this DVD a must to put beside your Rubik's Cube and Garfield toy.

Made at the time when Eddie was near guaranteed box-office gold, this is a lavish movie that really polishes up well on disc. A bright and sharp picture means that you can marvel like never before at the glistening hair of 'Soulglo' poser, Eriq La Salle (who plays the bad guy).

Most fun of all though is the fabulous new 5.1 mix. From the fireworks show to the disco scene and heavy drum routines that introduce the royal family, this is a delight to listen to. The use of the speakers is excellent and adds extra fun to the craziness.

As is often the case, Paramount has only provided a trailer as the extra feature, but this is a disc to buy if you loved the movie and want to see it in even better shape than when it came out.
