Darkman DVD (1990)

The fantasy thriller "Darkman" oozes with style and grand adventure that's great to revisit, or even discover on DVD.

The picture transfer offers little to complain about. Certain shots look slightly washed-out in colour depth, but that's unlikely to bother most viewers.

The explosive and frantic nature of this movie would have made for a great 5.1 sound mix, so it's disappointing to discover that this disc offers only 2.0. That said, it's a busy effort and often surprises with great effects steering around the speakers when played in Pro Logic mode.

Released in the early part of 2000, this DVD has more features than most did at that time. Along with the trailer and cast and crew biographies, there are also some good production notes. While no substitute for a commentary, they do feature quotes from director Sam Raimi and star Liam Neeson on the development and execution of the film.
