The Naked Gun DVD (1988)

Paramount has clearly put more effort into this disc than its sequel. Despite being three years older, this original looks fresher than the "Naked Gun 2½" disc.

The 5.1 sound mix is also a little more adventurous, with Neilsen's airbag-filled car wreaking havoc with the sub woofer. Fun's also provided for the other speakers, especially during the destruction of Ricardo Montalban's office.

Director David Zucker and producer Robert Weiss provide a commentary for the disc that's actually a real selling point for getting this DVD. All the little jokes that you may have missed (like Gorbachev's birthmark being shaped like North Vietnam), are laid bare for you to enjoy. They also point out all the stock footage and tricks used to get the big-movie-look without the cost.
