Rugrats In Paris

Interviewed by James Mottram

What attracted you to "Rugrats in Paris"?

Being a mother, I end up at a lot of bad kids movies, which is probably why I was trying to counter with something that is decent.

You're also in Stanley Tucci's new film "Joe Gould's Secret". What do you do in that?

I play Alice Neal, who was a painter. Joe Gould was a real person, and she did a painting of him. I did it as a favour. Sometimes you just do things for friends. Ian Holm, who plays Joe, is amazing.

How do you think Hollywood has changed in your time?

I don't think anything changes unless it makes a lot of money. Hollywood is just like the politicians. They just follow the polls. They don't come up with any new ideas. That's not their job. Certainly it's getting younger and younger. I don't know how I've survived. I've done everything wrong. There have been many times when I thought that was the last time you would see me. Every time I had a child, I dropped out for a year and a half. Then, as I've gotten older, I've done things you weren't supposed to do. I played not only a nun, but one in a death penalty institution. Anything to kill my sex appeal, I've done!
