Yuen Woo Ping may have wowed you with his action direction for "The Matrix" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", but here's the film that many of his fans consider to be his most dazzling. The good news is that it's out on a comparably stunning DVD.
The picture quality is warm and rich with plenty of detail and nothing to spoil the mood of the movie.
The 5.1 track keeps busy by redirecting every kick punch and blow to the sub woofer to near ludicrous effect. It's good fun though and the antics on-screen merit the bass-effects heavy track.
Don't know your Donnie Yen from your Yuen Woo Ping? This DVD will sort you out with extensive biographies and interviews with both. The Woo Ping conversation is the same as on the "Legend of a Fighter" disc, but the Donnie Yen has been filmed especially for this disc. He's very clear on the direction of where Hong Kong movies are going, and explains why older movies from there are often so exaggerated.
