Chopper DVD (2000)

If "Chopper" strikes a particular chord with you it will likely be because of the central character of Mark 'Chopper' Read. In that case, this DVD is a perfect example of how to give the fans what they want.

The film is transferred impeccably to disc. Whether it's the cold stark blues of the prison scenes or the warm glow of Chopper's Dad's house, there's nothing to complain about in the picture quality.

The 5.1 sound mix is excellent in using the speakers to create a vivid spatial feel to Chopper's world. A prime example is a club scene where the dialogue remains clear even while the the music from the surrounds envelops you.

Two commentaries are offered on this DVD. The first is with director Andrew Dominik, who talks both about the controversy behind the movie, and the actual production. The second commentary is with the real-life Mark 'Chopper' Read. He seems to like the film and takes us on a guided tour of what was real, what wasn't, and the number of true-life characters behind the fictional ones that make up the story on screen. His only complaint about the movie is that the actor playing his dad is bald when his father isn't.
