From the director of such epics as "Caligula" and "Salon Kitty" comes the eminently lighter "Miranda". This naughty comedy is the latest to join the gently swelling collection of DVDs available of the work of 'Il Maestro' aka Tinto Brass. This disc does boast more extras than the others but suffers in terms of transfer quality.
The picture is simply awful. Matters are hardly helped by the fact that half of the movie takes place in fog. However, regardless of the weather the image is grainy and sourced from a print that needs to be retired. But if you're a bit of a Tinto fan, you'll be used to such problems.
The sound is a little better. The music can be warbly, but the dialogue is clear enough.
Once you've calmed down from the antics of Miranda and her tavern, you'll find a few extra treats in store on the DVD. The filmography is useless (many of the dates are wrong) but there is a highly amusing interview with Tinto, taken from the making of his film "Trasgredire". Here Tinto demands to know "who made sex dirty?"
And while he is unafraid to ask the cutting questions of the day, he is also keen to offer an insight that may so far have escaped us. According to him "the arse is the mirror of a person's soul." And he'd be pleased to prove this courtesy of a "TV show where I would read arses." Now that's a bum note to end a review on.
