"Jude" may be based upon Thomas Hardy's novel "Jude the Obscure", but the movie is quite clear on DVD.
Bad jokes aside, this is an exceptionally well-filmed period drama and for most of the course it looks good on disc. Unfortunately Universal have got it wrong by describing the ratio as 16:9 on the disc cover, suggesting that the film should be in widescreen. Sadly it is not. The image quality remains good despite this, although one rain-soaked scene does get swamped out with a lot of murky grain.
The 2.0 stereo sound mix is quite a revelation. Adrian Johnston's score cuts through the speakers with an icy chill, while the sound effects of the bustling town of Christminster build a convincing atmosphere.
The only extra feature is the trailer, but fans of the movie will find plenty to enjoy through the transfer of the film.
