"Reservoir Dogs" might not have enjoyed a big budget but it's a handsomely shot film that looks great on a classy DVD release.
As with "Pulp Fiction", this is a bright sun-kissed movie. The DVD mastering exploits the vivid visuals well and overall looks fresh and sharp.
The sound comes in a simple 2.0 stereo mix. It's inevitably a little disappointing that it's not been upgraded to 5.1 but strangely enough it's little different in effect to the unadventurous 5.1 mix on the "Pulp Fiction" DVD. The now famous music score balances out nicely between the front speakers with clean dialogue filling out the centre channel.
Extras are limited to a trailer and a special introduction by Quentin Tarantino. This might not seem like much, but Quentin's nine minute intro is more interesting than many other DVDs that come packed with useless junk about otherwise lousy movies.
Rounded off with animated menus, care has obviously been taken with this disc. One can't help suspect though that a 'collector's edition' is yet to come out one day.
