If you enjoy the high feel-good factor in "Cool Runnings" then that might be enough to make you buy the DVD. But Disney have really missed out on a chance to deliver a good disc here.
Some DVDs may have oodles of extras but the poor quality of the film itself or the banality of these titbits can often render them meaningless. But the fact that "Cool Runnings" is based on real facts offers a golden opportunity to include real footage of the event or even a featurette to complement the film. But unfortunately this chance has been passed by and the film is the only thing you'll find on this release.
Thankfully it's a solid transfer with the warm Jamaican landscape looking very fresh and tempting. The bright colours of the clothes are also vibrant and relatively sharp. The only real flaw occurs in chapter nine when the Swiss bobsled team seem to encounter some major graininess in the picture.
Sound quality is clear but is hardly likely to give your amplifier much to do. It's a pretty featureless pro-logic mix but things heat up a little in chapters nine and 14 on the bobsled runs.
