Anna Faris plays Cindy Campbell in the teen horror movie that pokes fun at the "Scream" and "I know What You Did Last Summer" franchises. At its world premiere in New York she predicted that the gags would raise a few eyebrows, and she was on the money.
Can I ask you to describe the humour for me?
It's very over the top and it's really, really raunchy. It pushes sexuality to a whole new level and I think it manages to be offensive to everybody. There's a lot of jokes and I think only the Wayans brothers (Marlon and Shawn Wayans wrote "Scary Movie" while elder brother Keenen Ivory directed) can get away with, because some of it has to deal with racial stereotypes or gender stereotypes. It's really offensive, really raunchy and really silly.
Was it fun on set?
There was a lot of improvisation, and we were all just cracking up on set. The scene with the sheriff when he is in his underwear - I just couldn't stop laughing.
When you read the script did you have any misgivings about doing any of the scenes?
Oh yes. Actually I didn't get a copy of the script until after I was cast, so when I got to my love scene, my very romantic love scene (which of course is anything but) I was actually flying to Vancouver where we were going to shoot the film, and I got to that part and I thought "Oh man, what am I in for?" - but it was so funny.
In what ways do you think this movie take this kind of humour to a new level?
In lots of ways it takes the levels of bad taste up a peg. In fact I can't tell you how nervous I am for my parents to see it because they are pretty conservative people, and it's definitely going to have some harsh criticism because of how offensive it is, and how it is so tasteless. You are embarrassed that you are laughing at it because it's 13 year-old, 8th grade humour.
Do you think they deliberately went out to shock here?
Yeah, but I think that was really a key factor in the comedy and hopefully it will do really well because it is so shocking and over the top. We are definitely targeting the teen market.
