Biography
Alice Lowe is a writer/performer of TV, live comedy and film. She appeared in Garth Marenghi's 'FrightKnight' and 'Netherhead' at the Edinburgh Festival 2000-1, the latter of which won the Perrier Award. This then was commisioned as a Channel 4 series, cult hit 'Darkplace', in which Alice played 'Liz Asher/Madeleine Wool'. Alice recently appeared as 'Tina' in Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's follow-up to 'Sean of The Dead', summer blockbuster 'Hot Fuzz'. Her other TV appearances include 'Monkey' in 'The Mighty Boosh', David Bowie in 'Snuff Box', Madonna in 'Star Stories', a recurring role in the improvised series 'Annually Retentive' with Rob Brydon, 'Beth' in 'My Life In Film' as well as various other cameos in comedies such as 'Little Britain', 'The IT Crowd' and 'Black Books'. She is due to appear as a regular character, 'Alicia', in Channel Five's new sitcom 'Angelo's.' Alice Lowe often collaborates with director Jacqueline Wright. In 2005 Alice wrote and starred in a short film, 'Stiffy' (available to view on this site) which was one of the winners of Straight 8 and was directed by Jacqueline Wright. The Straight 8 competition demands that the films be shot on 8mm, with one-take-only scenes and no editing. The film was selected to be screened at Cannes 2005. In 2007, another Straight 8 entry, 'Sticks and Balls', written by and starring Alice Lowe and directed by Jacqueline Wright, was selected to be screened in Cannes and received huge accolade. An early Alice Lowe/Jacqueline Wright collaboration, 'Out Of Water' is available to view on this site. Jacqueline and Alice are currently developing another comedy short 'Junglophilia' which was commissioned by Peter Gabriel to commemorate 25 years of WOMAD. Alice started out co-devising and appearing in small fringe shows ('City Haunts', 'Snowbound'), collaborations with director Paul King ('The Mighty Boosh', 'Garth Marenghi's Netherhead'). She now regularly performs live comedy in London. In 2005 Alice took her own Kate-Bush inspired prog-rock spoof 'Moonjourney' to the Edinburgh Festival. Alice writes and performs her own songs as part of her character comedy. Alice is currently developing her first feature film 'The Sightseers' with her co-writer and co-star, Steve Oram. The project is being developed by BigTalk ('Shaun Of The Dead' 'Hot Fuzz') and will be directed by award winning Paul King with Edgar Wright as Exec. Producer. FilmFour have just paid for Steve and Alice to travel round Britain in a caravan as research!
