We meet the cast of the comic crime caper that's a co-production between Ireland and the UK.
Cillian Murphy was at the start of an upward swing in his career when Mark O'Rowe handed him the script for Intermission (2003). It was a low-budget crime caper set in their native Ireland and opened strongly on both sides of the Irish sea. O'Rowe has since been nominated for a BAFTA for Channel 4 film Boy A whilst Murphy has featured in Hollywood's blockbusting Batman franchise. Perrier's Bounty sees them getting back to their roots again for the story of Michael, a ne'er-do-well who goes on the run from loan sharks on the mean streets of Dublin.
Brendan Gleeson plays the titular mobster breathing down Michael's neck only a couple of years after he won plaudits for his turn as a contemplative gangster in Martin McDonagh's crime caper In Bruges. He and Cillian talk to BBC Film Network about the way independent filmmakers like Ian Fitzgibbon are bridging the gap between the British and Irish film industries. They also talk about their bond of trust with Fitzgibbon who started out as an actor before going on to direct television series and this, his third feature film.
When Perrier and his gang come looking for Michael, Jim Broadbent and Jodie Whittaker are dragged along on the getaway ride as his father and love interest, respectively. They also chat to BBC Film Network about immersing themselves in the Irish culture and being sensitive to all of the light and shade in Mark O'Rowe's script. Perrier's Bounty is a very violent story - though rarely graphic - requiring all of the actors to tread a fine line between comedy and tragedy.
