ALMOST THERE

And then there were four..

Tara, Shaun, Colin and Tricia square up for tonight's semi-final and it's been a close run thing all the way. Tricia and Shaun have been the strongest singers in the competition, but Colin's energy and Tara's determination have secured them a place in tonight's show - and in your hearts!

Colin kickstarted tonight's show with a bang. The northern Irishman opted for an anthem from fellow countryman Thin Lizzy. Boys Are Back In Town was a belter of a choice, and came with some feisty mic action too. "The best start you could have engineered," started Richard. Lesley agreed, praising "You saved the best 'til last.. high-octane energy, I loved it, the best performance yet." What a way to start.

A tough act to follow, Tricia had to dig deep to top that. Too Lost In You was a tough, deep-pitched choice and Richard, as ever, was free with his views. "I thought that was a real ordeal for you. It's understandable. It was out of tune," he said. But Lesley was more encouraging, praising her performances throughout the competition. "You've had consistently the best technique, wonderful," she said. And Craig agreed.

Despite a strong voice, Shaun's had a bumpy ride with the judges. Tonight he sang Chasing Cars. "That was a brave song to choose, in a very good way," said Lesley. "You really have changed your style, it was dramatic, absolutely brilliant," said Craig. But, ever critical, Richard didn’t agree. "I don’t think that suited you. Too breathy." Ok then.

She's had an emotional workout from day one. But battling nerves and determined to improve, Tara's wowed the judges and the viewers. Penny Lane was another huge choice of track. But after a wobbly start, Tara found her voice and motored through a confident performance.

"You've been the biggest surprise of this competition. You've given performances of searing honesty," began Lesley, bubbling with praise. And Richard also had a positive word. "The single best holding of the stage I've seen so far," he said. "It would be a travesty if you didn't make the final." And summing up was Craig: "I hope so too," he said, agreeing with Richard. "Thank you for entertaining us."

Thanks to all four of you!
